For the past several days I have not had any sound when linked to video from news email and others. The sound icon on the face of the video is completely at fullest. I am 88 years old and have very limited digital skills. I have not been able to understand how to restore the sound. Don't understand why or how this happened. Please help. Susan J Morris

Hello,

First, is your system sound on? The corresponding icon is usually located on the taskbar, at the right bottom of your screen.

Also, if that was not the reason, try playing videos in another browser (e.g. Chrome, Edge, Opera) and check if you hear the sound there.

Ok, no problem. I will give you more details.

First, the system sound.

As I said, the corresponding icon is located on your taskbar. The task bar is a long thin pane, typically located at the bottom of your screen (see screenshot 1). If you cannot see it, try moving your pointer to the bottom edge of your screen, and the taskbar must show up.

In the right part of your taskbar there is a group of different icons with an up arrow before it. Please check if there is a sound icon, similar to one in your videos (see screenshot 1). If you cannot see it there, click the up arrow (see screenshot 2) and try to find the sound icon in the opened group of additional icons.

As you located the sound icon, check if it is muted (see screenshot 1 for a muted icon, and screenshot 2 for an unmuted one). If it is muted, click on it and move the slider to any volume level you want (you can also just click on the bar instead of moving the slider). After that, you should hear a sample system sound (that lets you check the adjusted volume). If you do, try playing your videos again and check if the sound has come back.

Please reach out here with the results and any questions during the process. We are here to help!
